Dear Sandra,

Thank you for your thoughtful comments. Truth vs Falsehood profoundly altered my unquestioned viewpoint on the supremacy of Pacifism as a belief system. Dr. Hawkins suggests that violence may be appropriate for a bully on the schoolyard, a madman with a shotgun, or a messianic megalomaniac. The moment we regard pacifism, or any "-ism" as the determinant of our actions, we relinquish responsibility for our actions. Right action takes place in the present moment, outside of philosophical precepts.

In a CBC interview, the Dalai Lama refers to the notion that sometimes violence is appropriate for self-defense (when being attacked by a mad dog for instance). If you search the internet for a definitive answer to the Dalai Lama's view of the Iraq War, you'll find that he is reluctant to give a direct answer. For the Dalai Lama to opine on the affairs of the world takes away from the primary focus of his life's work: the cultivation of enlightenment for all sentient beings. The Iraq War and the entire 20th Century are but an eyeblink in the spans of time that encompass that global mission.

I just finished reading your book review of "Truth vs Falsehood".
I have to say that I question some of what's in this book and hope that you and others who read it will apply balance to the important conclusions it draws.

The Dalai Lama, who is the ultimate Pacifist, clearly is a deeply integrous being....
truly being in his presence is being in the presence of God....his purity is palpable.
He has spoken out against the war in Iraq.

I thought it was interesting that the book implied that Fox network calibrated at a higher level than PBS. Fox has some of the most violent and base programs on TV, while PBS has such speakers as Wayne Dyer, Deepak Chopra, Joseph Campbell and many other spiritual leaders.

I do believe that David Hawkins writes beautifully and some of what this book says is truth, while some is not. I suggest that we not "turn off" the inner or outer eyes of our heart while reading it. I suspect the truth lies somewhere in between his version of truth and falsehood.....

Best Wishes,
