Colonics may include the introduction of herbs, probiotics and/or coffee or other substances into the water. These practices vary by individual therapist. In some regions, colonic practitioners must, by law, be supervised by a physician.
A colon cleansing programme may require that several sessions be scheduled in order to achieve the necessary goals. Therapists sometimes use abdominal massage during the procedure to stimulate the release of stored faecal matter.
